Chapter 315: Big Brother, You're Being Hypocritical
Yan En stood up, finished the last drag of his cigarette, and casually crushed the butt in the white sand of the nearby trash can.
"I really don't know. I've said everything I should say, and I didn't kill the person. Please give me back my phone. I need to contact my lawyer. Until then, I won't say another word."
He appeared to have regained his composure, speaking in a calm tone.
However, Qin Ruan noticed that his hand, placed by his side, was clenched into a fist, indicating that his inner state was not as calm as it seemed on the surface.
The female police officer standing next to Qin Ruan and Qin Jingcen asked them, "Do you know this person?"
Qin Jingcen: "I don't know him."
Qin Ruan: "Never seen him before."
Qin Mei, who had appeared behind them at some point, interjected, "If I had seen him before, I would have beaten him until he called me 'dad' and 'mom'!"
Yan En heard his words.
In other words, Han Xian, this woman, had actually cheated on the old man before they divorced, and she had even kept other gigolos.
To die like this, it feels like she got off cheap.
The expression on the female police officer's face became meaningful upon hearing this. Han Xian was once a wealthy woman from a prominent family, living a glamorous life. It was unexpected that her personal life was so chaotic.
Indeed, wealthy families have their fair share of scandals, and they play quite boldly.
Qin Ruan pushed aside the strands of hair near her ear and looked at the female police officer. She asked in a gentle tone, "May I ask if you belong to the Criminal Investigation Bureau or the General Bureau?"
"General Bureau."
This case was extraordinary, and the location of the incident was relatively close to them, so it naturally fell under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Investigation General Bureau.
"Tell Lu Han, your Director Lu, that there's more to this case than meets the eye. If they want to solve it, they can contact me anytime, but it will come at a cost."
After Qin Ruan finished speaking, she turned to Qin Jingcen and Qin Mei, saying, "Big brother, second brother, let's go."
"Alright—"
Qin Jingcen held his sister's hand and left, with the pale-faced Qin Mei trailing behind them.
He seemed like a rejected cabbage, pitiful and forlorn.
The female police officer stared at the backs of the three siblings as they walked away, her brows furrowed.
Their Director Lu belonged to the prominent Lu family, one of the four major families. Although the Qin family in the capital was considered a wealthy clan, it couldn't compare to the high-ranking nobility of the Lu family. Qin Ruan addressing their Director Lu by his name alone indicated that their relationship wasn't that simple.
The policewoman took out her phone and contacted her immediate superior for consultation.
...
Qin Jingcen, Qin Ruan, and Qin Mei descended the stairs and stood at the hotel entrance, none of them taking another step forward.
Qin, the eldest, tilted his head and asked, "Ruan Ruan, you said there's more to this case, what's going on?"
Ruan Ruan, with one hand in her pocket, spoke with a cold voice, "They weren't killed by a person."
Qin, the eldest, asked, "Not killed by a person?"
Qin, the second son, added, "Supernatural entities at work?"
Ruan Ruan nodded to both of them and said, "From the strong smell of blood I detected at the crime scene, there was a faint odor of decay. There was also a lingering presence of dark energy in the room. It couldn't have been anything other than supernatural entities."
The eldest Qin's face turned grim, "Do you even know what you're saying?"
"I know," Ruan Ruan replied innocently, with a hint of confusion.
Soon, she realized she hadn't told her older brother and father about her ability to see apparitions.
Ruan Ruan composed herself and organized her words, "Brother, I can see things that ordinary people can't see with my eyes. In the room, I saw the restless spirits of Han Xian and Han Kexin. They are truly dead."
Qin Mei couldn't comprehend, "Their bodies were in the room. If they're not dead, could they be faking it?"
Ruan Ruan smiled slightly, without explaining too much.
The situation was rather complex, involving spiritual possessions and other deceptions.
She met the bewildered and helpless gaze of her older brother, Qin Jingcen, and continued, "Brother, Han Xian and her daughter have been following us. Would you like to take a look?"
Qin, the eldest, raised his hand to his forehead, showing a mix of helplessness and faint weariness on his face, "Ruan Ruan, don't joke with me."
"Brother, I'm not joking with you. Get in the car first, and I'll make sure you see it."
Ruan Ruan took his hand and walked down the hotel steps, heading towards the parking lot.
Qin Mei caught up with them, running, not afraid of people but afraid of apparitions.
Upon learning that Han Xian and Han Kexin were right beside them, Qin Mei's entire body tensed up.
Ruan Ruan pushed her older brother into her Maserati and turned on the interior lights.
"Brother, get ready. Normal people with the ability to see ghost will affect their own fate. I won't let you see for too long."
"Are you not kidding me?"
Qin Jingcen grabbed Qin Ruan's outstretched hand.
Qin Ruan: "I'm not lying to you, Second Brother. Second Uncle and the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Lu Han, both know."
"So, I'm the last one to know?"
Qin Jingcen was unhappy and quickly shifted the focus of the conversation.
Qin Ruan smiled awkwardly, "I didn't have a chance to be honest with you."
Qin Jingcen raised his gaze and rubbed her head, exerting a bit of force, messing up Qin Ruan's hairstyle.
He pretended to be angry, "Next time, don't hide anything from me."
Qin Ruan narrowed her eyes, her face beaming with a smile. "So, Big Brother, do you believe me?"
Qin Jingcen didn't say anything, neither nodding nor shaking his head.
But Qin Ruan understood. She smiled and said, "Big Brother, let go of my hand."
Qin Jingcen released his grip, and she immediately placed her index finger on his brow and slowly moved it to the side of his temple.
"Big Brother, look behind you."
Without any hesitation, Qin Dashao turned his head to look behind.
With just one glance, he was scared to the core.
Qin Mei sat in the center of the backseat, with the spirits of Han Xian and Han Kexin floating on either side of him.
Han Xian's body was severed from the waist, still in the position of her death.
Her severed waist revealed a pile of intestines, fresh red blood, and a complete cross-section of the wound, stimulating Qin Jingcen's vision.
Meeting Han Xian's sinister and chilling blood-red eyes, Qin Jingcen clenched his teeth and slowly shifted his gaze.
Han Kexin was relatively better off. Her face was not stripped like a corpse, and her limbs were intact, without any overly terrifying scenes.
However, her eyes were filled with hatred and malice, causing Qin Jingcen heart to skip a beat.
The direction Han Kexin was staring at was clearly Ruan Ruan, who was sitting beside him.
Qin Mei sat in the center of the backseat, meeting the eerie gaze of his older brother and younger sister. He had a creepy feeling.
Could it be that the spirits of Han Xian and Han Kexin were right next to him?
The space inside the car was so small that it seemed like they had nowhere else to stay except next to him.
Qin Mei stammered, "Bi-Big... Big Brother, w-what are you looking at?"
Qin Jingcen looked at him sympathetically and with pity. "Have you not noticed the chilliness around you?"
"Wow!"
Qin Mei exclaimed and lunged forward.
His movements were too fast, causing Qin Ruan's hand on Qin Jingcen's forehead to separate due to the impact.
Qin Mei pounced on them, twisting and turning like a slippery eel, desperately wriggling.
"Qin Mei!"
Seeing this guy getting closer to the crotch area, Qin Jingcen spoke in a stern voice.
"I saw them, I saw them, big brother, hug me!"
"Get lost!"
Qin Jingcen grabbed his younger brother's collar and pulled him back.
Qin Mei tightly clung to his waist and kept arching his body underneath him.
Young Master Qin couldn't stand his foolish younger brother anymore and got out of the car.
Qin Mei took the opportunity to jump into the passenger seat, holding onto the seat belt tightly, pitifully staring at Qin Ruan with moist eyes.
"Ruan Ruan, I'm scared..."
Qin Ruan curved her lips, patting his head. "Good boy, Second Brother."
Qin Mei pulled her hand away, speaking firmly, "A man's head should not be touched!"
At that moment, he forgot to be scared.
Qin Ruan chuckled. "With me here, what are you afraid of?"
Qin Mei blinked, suddenly realizing, "Oh, right, I forgot that you can control the ghost."
He recalled the embarrassing scene he had just caused, scratched his head, and didn't dare to look back at his elder brother outside the car.
Qin Jingcen walked around the front of the car and opened the driver's door.
"Ruan Ruan, get out of the car. I have something to tell you."
Qin Ruan replied and stepped out of the car.
Qin Mei, in the passenger seat, immediately followed suit and got out of the car.
He didn't want to be alone in the car with two ghost.
He quickly rushed out of the car and jogged over to his elder brother and younger sister.
Qin JingCen stared at the car with a heavy gaze.
Although he couldn't see Han Xian and Han KeXin now, he had truly witnessed two wandering spirits just now.
That was definitely not a special effect from a movie or TV show; he had seen it with his own eyes.
He was still frightened, as anyone would be, witnessing two living people turning into ghost.
What puzzled him even more was how his younger sister could see those things.
Qin JingCen furrowed his brow and looked at Qin Ruan, asking, "Ruan Ruan, how can you see those things?"
Qin Ruan replied, "I can just see them, and they can't hurt me. I can send them to the netherworld."
As soon as these words were spoken, Qin Jingcen didn't feel much relief in his heart. Instead, he became even more burdened.
"They won't have any impact on you? You're carrying a child in your belly, are you sure nothing will happen?" Qin Ruan tone was light, not wanting him to worry too much. "No, I'm capable of protecting myself," she reassured.
Qin Jingcen pursed his lips tightly, sounding disappointed. "Ruan Ruan, as your older brother, I don't understand you at all. I feel frustrated and self-blaming."
Qin Ruan had been home for a year already, and he had never known any of this.
"Big brother, don't be like this." Qin Ruan held his hand, unsure of how to console him.
Qin Jingcen asked again, "Does Third Master?"
Qin Ruanyu lowered her gaze and whispered, "Yes, when the series of murders happened recently, the Criminal Investigation Bureau came to us. I and two other metaphysical practitioners from the capital city helped solve the case."
"Other metaphysical practitioners?" Qin Jingcen had never been involved in this circle and was unaware.
"Yes, two Tian Shi (heavenly masters) from Maoshan Sect and Yuxing Sect," Qin Ruanyu answered.
"How did you come to know these people?" Qin Jingcen frowned.
He couldn't help but reflect on himself; he truly knew so little about his sister.
"We are all in the same circle, so we got to know each other through our encounters," Qin Ruanyu explained briefly.
She didn't want to delve into the details. As someone who had been reborn, there were many inexplicable aspects about her that couldn't be explained clearly.
"Big brother, you can rest assured. I won't be in any danger, and besides, people wouldn't dare to provoke those in the heavenly masters' profession so easily."
Qin Mei leaned closer and whispered, "Sis, you sound like a fortune teller."
"Shut up!" Qin Dashao glared at him.
Qin Mei pouted, "You're getting angry at me again. Big brother, I've seen through you. You're not just obsessed with our sister, but you're also hypocritical."
