Chapter 31: Not a Study Genius, but a Study Deity
Gu Qingning nodded, her gaze scanning over the papers on the table.
Across from her, Principal Zhang reminded, "You can start answering the exam now."
Upon hearing this, Gu Qingning reached out and grabbed a paper, her fingers curling around a pen.
Her gaze flickered over the test questions, and without hesitation, she began writing.
Her rapid speed stunned the invigilating teachers nearby.
This wasn't a multiple-choice test. Could she really answer without thinking?
Could she be randomly scribbling?
Ignoring their thoughts, Gu Qingning's hand holding the pen didn't stop, and black ink trailed wherever the pen tip went.
One question after another, with hardly any pauses.
In less than twenty minutes, she was already working on the second paper.
However.
Everyone still didn't take it seriously and unanimously believed that she was just scribbling randomly.
After all, her entrance exam performance was terrible. It was hard for anyone to believe that a low-achiever could suddenly become a top student.
At the entrance of the classroom, Gu Zhao finished his work and hurriedly arrived.
He lowered his voice and asked, "Teacher Li, how is it going?"
"Qingning has been inside for over half an hour," Li Fei replied.
The classroom curtains were drawn, and Gu Zhao couldn't see what was happening inside.
He took a step forward, attempting to peek through the gap in the window, but it was in vain.
Inside, Gu Qingning was already working on the third paper.
Her speed in answering the questions was astonishing, even unsettling Principal Zhang.
He approached, stepping lightly, and picked up one of the papers covered in writing.
He turned around and walked back, with the headmaster and a few invigilators surrounding him.
Seeing the handwriting on the paper, their initial reaction was—these characters are truly ugly.
They were incredibly sloppy.
To put it bluntly, even scribbles made by ghosts would look better.
"This question is correct."
The shocked voice was kept very low, leaving Principal Zhang and the others dumbfounded. They couldn't find a single error despite scrutinizing every word.
They exchanged glances.
From each other's eyes, they could see astonishment.
She wasn't scribbling randomly after all. She answered all the questions on this paper correctly.
Principal Zhang was still out of touch with the situation. There were some questions he himself didn't know the answers to, but judging from everyone's expressions, he could guess some.
He asked in a low voice, "Did she answer many correctly?"
The headmaster leaned closer to his ear and whispered a few words. Principal Zhang's face revealed horror.
If he hadn't personally arranged this exam and was present during the monitoring, he would have suspected Gu Qingning of cheating.
For a moment, everyone's gaze toward Gu Qingning changed.
The entire paper was perfect, and she completed it in such a short time. Her abilities were evident.
The headmaster was the first to react, swiftly walking up to Gu Qingning and picking up another completed paper.
He folded it back and returned, with Principal Zhang and the others gathering around.
Ten minutes later, everyone was frozen in place, their gazes fixated on the paper.
Among them, a teacher swallowed dryly, his throat parched as he said, "She got them all right again."
Before everyone could regain their senses, a cold voice followed, "I'm done."
Gu Qingning stood up, and all the attention focused on her.
Most of it was astonishment and disbelief.
Principal Zhang couldn't believe his ears, his voice trembling, "You've finished them all?"
Gu Qingning nodded, and the teacher closest to her reached out and picked up the test paper.
After reading through it from start to finish, the same result was there.
Not to mention answering the questions incorrectly, they couldn't even find a single spelling mistake.
He looked up, facing the questioning gazes of everyone. He calmly said, "She got them all right."
The difficulty level of these three papers was known to them better than anyone else. These questions had already exceeded the scope of the third year of high school.
Even the former prodigy, Gu Zhao, fell short of a perfect score by five points back then, yet she completed three papers, all with full marks, in just an hour.
This was no longer being a top student; this was being a study deity.
Everyone was shocked, their eyes wide open.
Full marks?
"Can I go to the third year now?"
The cool voice brought everyone back to their senses. Principal Zhang looked at Gu Qingning and smiled obsequiously, "Of course, I will arrange it for you right away and transfer you to Class S."
Class S was the top class for the third year, and only top students could enter that class.
Gu Qingning put her hands back in her pockets and said in a calm voice, "I won't go to Class S."
Principal Zhang was taken aback, "Ah?"
Did he hear it wrong?
Did Gu Qingning not understand about Class S? He said in a gentle tone, "Gu, you should know that Class S is the top class for the third year, and it has the best teaching resources."
"I know," Gu Qingning interrupted and said, "I want to go to Class C."
Everyone was dumbfounded. She didn't want to go to Class S, but Class C?
What was she thinking?
"Gu Qingning, have you really thought this through? If you go to Class S, you have a great chance of getting into the prestigious A University in the capital," Principal Zhang advised.
Gu Qingning's expression remained indifferent. "I only want to go to Class C."
Her resolute tone left everyone puzzled.
It was such a waste for such a talented student not to go to Class S. With her grades, she would definitely secure a spot in A University. If First High produced another genius, it would surely enhance the reputation of the school.
"Well, since you want to go to Class C, we'll do as you wish."
The others disagreed, their faces showing disapproval. "Principal..."
Principal Zhang waved his hand, interrupting their words, and continued, "Does Miss Gu have any other requests?"
"I want to apply for the boarding school, but I want a single room," she said.
Principal Zhang readily agreed, "That's simple. I'll arrange the procedures for you right away."
Gu Qingning thanked him and said, "There's nothing else. I'll leave now."
After speaking, she walked towards the door.
As soon as the door opened, Gu Zhao hurriedly approached.
He carefully observed her expression, but there was no trace of a smile. Could it be that she performed poorly on the exam?
He asked cautiously, "Qingning, how did the exam go?"
Gu Qingning reached for her backpack and replied casually, "It was okay."
"Okay?"
Gu Zhao was puzzled. Was it good or not?
Before he could ask further, Gu Qingning had already stepped down the stairs and left.
He was about to chase after her when Principal Zhang stopped him.
"Third Young Master, we want to discuss something with you."
"Can we talk about it another day? I'm busy now."
Principal Zhang said, "It's related to miss Gu's exam results."
Concerning Gu Qingning, Gu Zhao paused and turned to look at him, "Did Qingning do poorly on the exam?"
Principal Zhang shook his head repeatedly, "Of course not. Gu scored full marks."
Li Fei was astonished, her voice changing, "Full marks?"
As the class teacher, she was well aware of Gu Qingning's usual academic performance. She struggled with the first-year curriculum, and it was hard to believe that she scored full marks on the placement exam. It was baffling.
Gu Zhao was also shocked and blurted out, "Are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"
Perhaps Principal Zhang went easy on Qingning to save face for him?
With a single glance from Gu Zhao, Principal Zhang understood what he was thinking.
He smiled and handed him the test papers, saying, "First High's exams have always been fair and just. Third Young Master, you don't need to doubt anything. There was surveillance throughout the entire exam, and it turns out that miss Gu is not as she appears on the surface."
