Chapter 287: The Father and Son of the Rong Family, the Branches of the Rong Family
"Bang! Clatter!"
As Huo Chuan's hand fell, the blue-and-white porcelain vase shattered into pieces.
Qin Ruan continued to wander around the living room, her steps seemingly leisurely, but in reality, calm and restrained.
Opening the Heavenly Eyes required the use of the Yin power within her body, which would consume a great deal of her energy.
Although Qin Ruan was a semi-divine being, she could not keep her Heavenly Eyes open for too long due to her pregnancy.
After finding two items that were not particularly clean in the living room, Qin Ruan finally withdrew her Yin power.
"Madam, Third Young Master knows that you haven't returned home and is asking for your current location."
When Qin Ruan was about to go upstairs to look for Rong Changting and Rong Jing, Huo Chuan suddenly approached her respectfully and reported.
A hint of surprise flashed through her eyes. "What time is it?"
"Seven o'clock."
It had been almost two hours since they arrived.
Qin Ruan glanced at Huo Chuan and said, "Don't tell Third Young Master yet. I'll tell him in person after I'm done."
Huo Yunqiao's current physical condition was not suitable for this kind of atmosphere filled with malevolent aura. If the negative energy entered his body, it would make his already unstable fate even more chaotic.
"Understood!" Huo Chuan took a step back.
However, he thought to himself that it would be difficult to keep things from Third Young Master in the capital if he wanted to know. The reason Third Young Master asked for Madam's location was just a formality. He probably already knew where they were.
Huo Chuan didn't understand the relationship between his master and his wife.
If he had to describe it, it was more like a parent with a child.
Third Young Master's attitude towards his wife was like indulging and doting on a daughter, and there was no hint of ambiguity between them.
Qin Ruan went upstairs and followed the scent of Rong Changting and Rong Jing to the door opposite the staircase that was wide open.
"Rong Jing?" She stood at the doorway and called out.
"Here!" Rong Jing's response came quickly from inside.
"Can I come in?" Qin Ruan asked, standing at the door.
"Come in. I'm helping my father bandage his wounds," Rong Jing replied urgently, with a hint of panic in his tone.
Qin Ruan and Huo Chuan entered the bedroom one after the other.
Upon seeing the scene inside, Qin Ruan's lips twitched, and even Huo Chuan standing behind her could not bear to look.
Rong Jing was indeed bandaging Rong Changting's wounds.
However, looking at his masterpiece, it was so ugly that it was breathtaking.
Not to mention how ugly the bandage was, can't Rong Jing see the painful and reluctant look on Rong Changting's face?
Qin Ruan looked at Rong Changting, who was enduring the pain but not rejecting his son's concern, and touched her nose, holding back a smile.
She spoke behind her, "Huo Chuan, why don't you help him?"
"Okay," Huo Chuan replied, already unable to watch any longer.
Rong Jing's way of doing things was clearly intended to cause more harm to his father.
Huo Chuan took the gauze still being wrapped by Rong Jing, and said in a deep voice, "This gauze is wrapped too tightly and is too thick. You've also used the wrong medicine. This type of medicine residue remaining on the wound can cause it to worsen. Go get a basin of water. The wound needs to be cleaned again before it's rebandaged."
"I'll go right away!" Rong Jing was busy and panicked, and now that someone was taking over, he naturally breathed a sigh of relief.
He turned and rushed into the bathroom, soon returning with a basin of clean water.
Huo Chuan quickly and skillfully cleaned up Rong Changting's injuries, applied medicine, and rebandaged them in one go. The whole process took no more than ten minutes.
His movements were obviously skillful.
Rong Changting was half lying at the head of the bed, his whole body looking as if he had just walked around the gate of hell.
Qin Ruan leaned against the stylish and alternative wardrobe beside her, her eyes downcast as she looked at Rong Changting on the bed.
She told him about the items that carried evil energy that she had found at home.
"Do you still remember who gave you all these things?" she asked.
Every time Qin Ruan mentioned an item, Rong Changting's face turned even more ashen.
"I heard him grit his teeth and say, 'Remember.'"
How could he forget? Over the past few months, his little lover had been very active in giving him things, each and every one of them intended to compromise him.
For these past few years, he had fulfilled all his obligations except for giving his partner a formal status.
He provided for her food, clothing, shelter, and even gave her some indulgence and affection to compensate for the lack of security that came with a lack of official recognition.
But he had never expected that she would try to take his life.
Rong Changting's hand clenched tightly into a fist, his already pale face turning even paler with anger.
When Qin Ruan learned from him who had sent the things, she recalled the items that she had found that were not fatal but still did some damage to him, and came up with a guess.
"You don't believe in ghosts and gods, but does your lover know about it?" Qin Ruan asked.
"She knows," Rong Changting nodded.
"If I'm not mistaken, those things were all small tests to see if anyone around you knew or would expose you," Qin Ruan continued, "Once it was confirmed that you were oblivious, she sent you the most deadly gift, the watch, with the intention of killing you with one blow."
Rong Changting bit his lip tightly, staring at his empty wrist.
That watch had cost quite a bit of money, enough to cover his lover's living expenses for half a year. Because of her generosity and the level of affection she showed, he wore it every day.
Rong Changting's pale lips moved slightly, "You're right. Of all those things, the watch was the last thing she sent me."
"That's right," Qin Ruan nodded, "The other party must have been prepared for a long time, and with such a well-planned scheme, they won't give up easily. There must be more to come tonight."
Qin Ruan crossed her arms, her voice clear and cold.
"Who could be so malicious?" Rong Jing, who was taking care of the scene of the tragedy caused by the bandages, asked through gritted teeth.
Qin Ruan's eyebrows lifted slightly, "I don't know who it is, but the person who would use such vicious means undoubtedly has a deep-seated grudge against your Rong family."
Rong Changting shook his head in disagreement, "We've only been in the capital for a little over a decade, and we haven't made any mortal enemies. We do have some rivals in business, though."
Qin Ruan's eyes flickered, her red lips closing slightly, "Your surname is Rong. Is there any connection to the Rong family of the Four Great Families in the capital?"
Rong Changting's face showed a difficult-to-explain expression, while Rong Jing looked stunned.
How could he not know about the Four Great Families and the Six Great Houses in the capital?
The Four Great Families are Huo, Long, Lu, and Gu. They are prestigious and influential families in the capital city, with a history of several hundred years.
The Six Great Aristocratic Families are Nangong, Su, Xiao, Gongsun, Ling, and the Rong family.
Rong Jing had never thought that they would be related to the Rong family among the aristocratic families.
Looking at his father's complex expression, it seemed like there was something he didn't know.
After a long while, Rong Changting nodded lightly to Qin Ruan.
"Yes, we are a branch of the Rong family in the capital city."
Qin Ruan sighed, "No wonder you have a guardian spirit by your side."
Everything now made sense. If they had the bloodline of an aristocratic family, the existence of a guardian spirit by Rong Changting's side could be explained.
"Dad, it was so hard for you to keep this from me. If I had known about our relationship with the Rong family, I wouldn't have acted so clueless all these years."
Rong Jing looked particularly resentful and aggrieved.
